Putin wants it to last

2023-02-12T10:36:10.400Z

The long war is economically a global disaster. It entails a permanent nuclear danger and enormous expansive potential

Nobody is as interested in the long war as Putin.

He opted for the shortest possible, the blitzkrieg, but lost and went to the next phase.

He is now only interested in a prolonged war, until he embeds himself like a malignant and paralyzing tumor in the side of Europe.

There will always be a deposit of benevolent arguments to divert responsibilities and ease a good conscience.

The war industry provides the most impressive.

There are few doubts about the evolution of the actions of the arms manufacturers, but it is not reasonable to deduce that those who direct them or are their holders have organized and have managed to hinder any initiative to stop or finish it.

Of equal or worse caliber is the one that attributes to the White House the will and interest in prolonging it and exhibits as proof the continuous and increasing supplies of arms to Ukraine.

The United States, like the 50 countries allied with Ukraine, is interested in finishing as soon as possible.

It has been explained by two American academics, Samuel Charap and Miranda Priebe, in a highly considered paper entitled

Avoiding the Long War

, by the Rand Corporation, available here.

The long war is economically a global disaster.

It entails a permanent nuclear danger and enormous expansive potential, which threatens Biden's initial intentions to keep it confined to Ukraine and avoid direct NATO participation.

Putin knows it.

The longer it lasts, the more difficult it will be to maintain the so far exemplary unity of the allies.

Or that they concentrate on other tasks, such as responding adequately to China's challenge, both global and Asian, to dominate Taiwan.

The long war interests Xi Jinping in any case, the first beneficiary of an exhausted and broken Russia, ready for his huge neighbor to begin to slowly gobble it up.

A famous demand from Winston Churchill to Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940, after the British withdrawal from the continent on the beaches of Dunkirk, perfectly explains the current scheme: "Give us the tools and we will finish the job."

It wasn't like that in World War II, but now that's what Zelensky is saying to Biden and all his allies.

Hence the willingness to arm Ukraine to defeat Putin, in an operation like the so-called

lend and leasing

(lend and lease) with which Washington equipped the British and Soviets to defeat Hitler, before being forced to enter directly in the conflict over the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The suspicious argument regarding the United States does not end here.

The second part goes further.

To the fallacy is added the ignominy.

There would be no war if Ukraine had remained disarmed, of course.

There would be no Ukraine either.

And surely, very little European Union and little Atlantic Alliance.

Perhaps nothing would remain of both.

Putin's dream come true.
