Today, the People's Assembly held its eleventh session of the eighth regular session of the third legislative session, chaired by Hamouda Sabbagh, Speaker of the Assembly.

In a speech on behalf of the Council, Sabbagh stressed the importance of the countries of the world shouldering their moral and humanitarian responsibilities by pressing for the immediate and urgent lifting of the unjust siege and the unjust unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, and to provide a helping hand and effective assistance to mitigate the effects of the devastating earthquake that hit a number of Syrian governorates.

The President of the Council stressed that President Bashar al-Assad proves day after day that he is one of the people and with the people sharing good and bad times, and that he is a leader of this loyal people and their values ​​and principles. Since the first moments of this disaster, President al-Assad and Mrs. Closely monitored all procedures and procedures for dealing with the effects of the earthquake and its repercussions.

The President of the Council expressed his thanks and gratitude to everyone who stood by Syria from the brotherly and friendly countries in this ordeal, whether by sending rescue and ambulance teams and crews or aid in all its forms, or by communication, messages and telegrams of solidarity, support, condolence and condolence, calling on all councils and parliaments of the world to put pressure on their governments in order to expedite the immediate end of the measures imposed on Syria.

Sabbagh pointed out the need to condemn the blatant and unjustified American and Western practices and behavior represented in the politicization of the Syrian humanitarian catastrophe, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of the United Nations, international humanitarian law and the Charter of Human Rights.

The President of the Council pointed out that the terrorist war that Syria has been through, imposed on it by the United States and Western countries, drained many of its resources and capabilities at all levels, and constituted a major obstacle during the relief, evacuation and evacuation operations and facing the effects of the devastating earthquake, indicating that the people in the stricken areas need aid. Urgent food, clothing, and medical supplies, and the reconstruction of their demolished homes and the restoration of their cracked ones, to help them face the repercussions of the human tragedy they are exposed to.

For their part, a number of members of the Council submitted proposals that would contribute to facing the effects and repercussions of the earthquake that struck a number of governorates, noting the efforts made by Syrians, including individuals, associations, and private and public companies in the governorates and expatriate countries, and their implementation of humanitarian initiatives to provide relief to their brothers affected by the earthquake.

The members demanded the formation of council committees according to each constituency to assist public agencies and international organizations in supervising relief operations, distributing aid to those affected, exempting owners of partially or totally destroyed homes and buildings from reconstruction fees, and preparing a detailed report counting the number of martyrs and injured according to the severity of their injuries. The number of destroyed and damaged buildings, treatment of irregular areas and slums, the preparation of a national action plan for the reconstruction of new buildings and the determination of a special budget for that.

For his part, Minister of State for People's Assembly Affairs Abdullah Abdullah indicated that the government is working on preparing an integrated plan after listing all the damages caused by the devastating earthquake in all sectors, as everything that was destroyed will be rebuilt with local efforts and in cooperation with friendly countries.

The meeting was adjourned to 12:00 noon on Monday.
