The discussion on the plan to weaken the judicial system in the Constitution Committee began this morning (Sunday) in the Knesset.

The coalition is already trying to promote a vote today on changing the composition of the committee for the selection of judges, and on the fact that the Supreme Court will not deal with fundamental laws.

These are the first votes on articles in the reform since the discussions in the committee began.

After their approval by the Knesset members of the coalition, they will be brought for further approval in the first reading in the Knesset plenum.

According to the latest proposal of the chairman of the committee, MK Simcha Rothman (religious Zionism), the committee to select judges will appoint nine members, but the coalition will have a majority.

It will consist of three ministers, one of whom is the Minister of Justice, three judges, including the President of the Supreme Court, and three members of the Knesset, one of whom is the chairman of the Constitution Committee.

At the beginning of the discussion, Rothman referred to MK Tali Gottlieb's (Likud) statement that Supreme Court President Ester Hayut is "responsible for the attack in Jerusalem", and specifically attacked the opposition, which he claims is "making a big mistake in extremizing the discourse.

Not a few hours have passed since Gottlieb's tweet came out and the Prime Minister commented on it, and I also said my opinion in the interview this morning. In contrast to this event - silence and silence towards statements from the other side that contain sedition and incitement."

In a parallel hearing in the Knesset committee, the Knesset's legal adviser, attorney Sagit Afik, referred to the attacks against Supreme Court President Ester Hayut and the Supreme Court and said during a hearing in the Knesset committee that "she has a very hard time with the harsh statements made regarding the judiciary, which is headed by the president of the court the top

There is no place for this talk in this house.

I think it is an excessive discourse and that it would have been appropriate to replace it with mutual respect for authorities."

Even in the Constitution Committee, Gottlieb continued to accuse the President of the Supreme Court of Friday's attack in Jerusalem.

MK Gadi Inzakot (the state camp) said that the reform harms the cohesion of Israeli society. Gottlieb responded by shouting: "Shame on you instigators." MK Naama Lazimi (Labor) told her: "Just this morning you accused the president of the Supreme Court In an attack in Jerusalem." MK Gottlieb answered: "What the President of the Supreme Court did was to discredit this nation, she made the enemy tail us."

"The reform is something in our soul."

Rothman added, "The violent discourse that is going on around us is inappropriate, and it doesn't matter from which direction it comes. The responsibility is on our shoulders and it is appropriate that everyone dedicate this discussion to business and professional speech instead of shouting and inciting. I, contrary to what is implied here, am not calling for anyone to be put in jail." Rotman said after he was quoted as calling for the banning of former ombudsman Avichai Mandelblit after the interview with him that was broadcast on the "Ovda" program.

Rotman called for dialogue with the representatives of the opposition. In line with my proposal and does not solve the problem for which we gathered."

However, Rothman called Malinovski's proposal "a welcome progress that opposition members are presenting alternatives and taking a factual approach."
