The Prosecutor's Office bases its case on testimonies from former drug traffickers who claim to have bribed or heard of payments to the former Secretary of Public Security of Mexico. This Monday, evidence of the alleged accumulation of wealth by the defendant is expected, including photos of Harley Davidson motorcycles, a Lamborghini, weapons and houses in Mexico and Florida.

New York.—

The trial against the former Secretary of Public Security of Mexico, Genaro García Luna, is nearing its final stretch.

It has been 10 effective days of testimony since the hearing began on January 23, in which the jury heard from 25 witnesses - including former Mexican police officers, former drug kingpins and US anti-drug agents - describe how the Sinaloa cartel operated and the alleged bribes that they paid to García Luna in exchange for his collaboration, so that both drug traffickers, their cocaine and money could transit without problems in Mexico.

This Monday, the last witnesses of the Prosecutor's Office against the defendant are expected, including a "significant" testimony, according to what the prosecutors told Judge Brian M. Cogan.

Then, García Luna himself could take the stand to testify in his favor, as suggested by documents presented by his defenders.

So far, the evidence against García Luna is mainly the words of several former members of the Sinaloa cartel who claim that they paid him bribes directly or that they heard other people talk about the alleged payments made to him when he was in charge. of the extinct Federal Investigation Agency (AFI) and later as Secretary of Security in the cabinet of former President Felipe Calderón (2006-2012)

This is a review of the evidence that has been provided and that directly involves García Luna with drug trafficking, and that will be the basis for the jury to decide the fate of the highest-ranking former Mexican official who has been tried in a US court.
