What questions and what do you want Migrations to investigate before the arrival of pregnant Russian women in the country

2023-02-12T23:04:16.468Z

The director of the immigration office, Florencia Carignano, explained the actions of her portfolio on her social networks and focused on "mafia organizations."

After detecting a considerable increase in the entry of

Russian pregnant women to Argentina

and hours after an alleged gang that brought women from Russia and obtained fraudulent documents for US$35,000 broke up, Migrations reported on

the opening of an investigation to find out what was behind the business

that is carried on while the war with Ukraine continues.

It was through her social networks that the director of the immigration office

Florencia Carignano

explained the conclusions reached after carrying out a

data analysis and interviewing several of the alleged victims

of the organization that is in charge of bringing them to the country. .

"Argentina has a history and legislation that embraces migrants who choose to live in the country in search of a better future. This does

not endorse mafia organizations profiting

by offering

gadgets

to obtain our passports for people who do not want to reside in our country," he began writing. the official

Carignano had told TN days before that in recent months they had been surprised by the arrival of so many Russian women in Argentina.

It was from then on that they began to investigate.

Regarding this information, he emphasized again in his post, where he stated: "From the permanent analysis carried out by @Migraciones_AR of migratory movements, we detected a

significant increase

in the entry of Russian citizens in recent months. That is why we decided to investigate and

interviewed to 350 of them

who were in

advanced pregnancy

."

And he added: "In the interviews we discovered that this organization

offers them, in exchange for a large sum, a birth tourism package with the Argentine passport

as the main reason for the trip. We have already provided the data to the federal courts to continue

taking care of our passport

" .

In this sense, he stressed that

the second passport for parents in Argentina is the fastest in the world

and stressed that it allows entry without a visa to 173 countries and obtain it for 10 years in the United States.

To draw a parallel, with the Russian document its citizens

can only enter 80 countries

.

The publication made by Carignano was accompanied by an illustration of a penguin that replaces the typical stork with a baby and instead of carrying a newborn in a handkerchief, it carries the passport of Argentina.

It is a drawing used by the company Baby RuaArgentina, which offers three "packages" for those pregnant Russians who want to give birth to obtain citizenship.

Also, in January, the British newspaper The Guardian had alerted about this migratory movement of Russian pregnant women to Argentina.

In the published article, he cited data from the Russian embassy which stated that in 2022, some 2,500 Russians moved to the country.

Of this number, many were pregnant women.

And according to published estimates, in 2023 there could be 10,000 citizens arriving in the country, mainly for

"birth tourism"

.

The arrival of pregnant women from Russia to the country

Last Thursday, a total of 33 Russians had arrived in the country only on one of the Ethiopian Airways flights.

All are between the 33rd and 34th week of pregnancy.

Of that total, six had been delayed due to problems in presenting the papers.

As Florencia Carignano explained, they had

lied in the data to apply for entry as tourists

.

This Friday another 83 Russians arrived

on an Ethiopian flight, 16 of them pregnant.

But it is not the only airline through which they enter, according to what Ezeiza told

Clarín

.

Florencia Carignano, National Director of Migrations, published a thread about the arrival of pregnant Russians.

"When we see that they don't have a return ticket, that they don't know how to explain where they are going to do tourism, something that is rare for a 34-week pregnant woman,

we begin to suspect

that they are not coming to do tourism," said Carignano.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, some 10,500 Russians have arrived in the country, according to migration authorities, but 7,000 of them have already left.

That gave the indication that they come for the passport.
