The Governor of Lattakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, confirmed the end of the search for victims in all locations in the governorate, while the rubble removal process is currently continuing.
Governor Helal said in a statement to SANA reporter that the number of those affected by the earthquake exceeds 142,000 citizens, and that the number of earthquake victims in the governorate reached 805 deaths and 1,131 injured, with 103 buildings completely demolished, and 247 buildings in danger of falling.
Governor Hilal pointed out that the governorate opened 47 shelter centers at the governorate level, and that the distribution of aid to those affected began from the first day of the earthquake disaster.
Regarding the work of public safety committees concerned with detecting buildings, Helal explained that, in agreement with the Engineers Syndicate, the General Company for Engineering Studies, and city councils and technical services, these committees were formed to detect damaged buildings, and to date, an evaluation of about 70 percent of these buildings has been completed.
He stressed that as a result of these evaluations, the committees decided to demolish some buildings in several areas in Jableh and Lattakia, and that the demolition process will be completed within the next two days after securing the safety of the neighboring buildings.
