The Follow-up Committee of the Higher Committee for Relief reviewed during a meeting held today in the Central Operations Room of the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, headed by the Chairman of the Committee, Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, the latest developments in response to the effects of the earthquake that hit Syria.

The most important measures to follow up on the response file, the aid provided by planes and across the land borders, the aid provided in the governorates, and the developments of data on the numbers of the displaced in the shelter centers and the numbers of these centers were also presented.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the immediate inventory of aid received and stored by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent or the Syrian Trust for Development was emphasized and distributed under the supervision of relief sub-committees, and to provide the Higher Committee for Relief with a daily report on distribution.

With regard to medical aid, it was emphasized that it would be inventoried in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and delivered to it immediately, and that the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor would process the requests of non-governmental organizations wishing to provide aid and send them to be placed at the disposal of relief sub-committees for distribution directly to those affected, in addition to opening warehouses in the governorates. The afflicted area to store the incoming aid within it, so that it can be distributed to the needy, and a daily report on the distribution operations is prepared.

It was emphasized that the lists of needs should be continuously updated and sent in both Arabic and English to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, to be circulated to the Syrian embassies in the countries of the world.

During the meeting, the committee discussed the issue of applications submitted by unlicensed international non-governmental organizations in Syria, and the mechanism for dealing with them.

The follow-up committee includes assistant ministers of local administration, environment, health, social affairs, labour, water resources, agriculture, land reform and interior, deputy head of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs and education, representatives of the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the Syrian Trust for Development.
