Al-Miqdad to the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross: Mobilizing all possible international humanitarian efforts to meet the challenges of the earthquake

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, stressed the importance of the humanitarian role played by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Syria during the years of the crisis, and the importance of strengthening this role and the existing cooperation with the Syrian government to confront the effects of the devastating earthquake, in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

Minister Mekdad, during his meeting with Mirjana Spoleric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the accompanying delegation, referred to all the facilities and support provided by the Syrian Arab Republic to relief and rescue teams in various regions of Syria to mitigate the effects of the earthquake on the affected people, calling for the mobilization of all possible international humanitarian efforts to face the resulting challenges. About the earthquake, pointing to the multiplying effect of unilateral inhumane sanctions on the capabilities of the Syrian state to face this disaster and its repercussions.

In turn, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross expressed her deepest condolences and sympathy to Syria and the families of the victims and those affected by the devastating earthquake. She also confirmed that they, in the International Committee of the Red Cross, will do everything in their power to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the earthquake at the present time, and work to support subsequent recovery efforts.

The meeting was attended by Qusai Al-Dahhak, Director of the International Organizations and Conferences Department, Fabrizio Carboni, Regional Director of the Operations Department for the Near and Middle East in the Committee, and Christophe Martin, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Syria.
