The Directorate of Education in Aleppo announced the return of work to schools in the province, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, as it identified 68 schools ready to receive students and pupils in the city.
The Director of Education in Aleppo, Mustafa Abdel-Ghani, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that 70 percent of Aleppo's schools were damaged by the earthquake to varying degrees, as an operations room was formed from the first day of the disaster in the Directorate of Education to continuously monitor all developments, and 114 schools were opened to the families who lost their homes.
Abdul-Ghani added: A service team was formed to organize the equitable distribution of relief materials provided to those affected, and another engineering team to cooperate and coordinate with the Directorate of Technical Services and the Aleppo Governorate. Five engineering groups were also formed to survey all Aleppo schools to ensure their structural integrity, identify their damages, and perform the light maintenance required to restore the school. For the educational process, and major maintenance is referred to the Department of School Buildings.
He said: To compensate for the educational loss, schools located in the middle of the city will be allocated to receive students of primary and secondary education certificates until the government plan crystallizes for a mechanism to compensate those affected for their homes, secure the necessary housing, empty the schools of their residents gradually, perform the necessary maintenance and return them to service and the educational process.
