The Chargé d'Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus, Counselor Yassin Al-Hujaimi, affirmed that his country will continue to stand by Syria through the air bridge and land convoys that transport aid, until it overcomes the effects of the earthquake disaster that struck it.

Al-Hujaimi said in a press statement with Major General Dr. Mazen Shalal, representative of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense at the Iraqi embassy in Damascus today, that the Iraqi government held an urgent meeting immediately after the earthquake occurred in Syria, and all ministries were directed to provide medical, food and logistical humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, in a fraternal initiative towards Sister Syria, indicating that the volume of humanitarian aid provided to Syria by land and air has reached more than 4 thousand tons, and we will continue to provide aid.

He pointed out that the Iraqi Ministry of Defense established, immediately after the earthquake disaster occurred, an air bridge between Iraq and Syria to deliver aid, as Iraqi planes arrive at Syrian airports, stressing that the Iraqi Ministry of Trade and the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Authority provided hundreds of tons of aid, while the Iraqi Ministry of Oil provided more than a million Liters of diesel fuel and gasoline for the Syrian brothers, and the authority contributed to transporting more than 700 thousand other liters.

Al-Hujaimi pointed out that there are many humanitarian initiatives to collect donations and organize aid convoys by the Iraqi people to provide relief to the Syrian people. .

In another context, Al-Hujaimi explained that the Iraqi government is able to take its own decisions while respecting the decisions of the international community, and has not been subjected to any pressure from any party whatsoever regarding the provision of humanitarian aid to Syria, as the land and air borders are open with Syria, and there is a heavy influx of cars and trucks. Aid through Al-Qaim “Al-Bukamal” port to Syria.

Al-Hujaimi indicated that the Iraqi army, which participated alongside the Syrian army in confronting terrorism, is participating through its trucks in transporting humanitarian aid, pointing to the visit that an Iraqi parliamentary delegation made yesterday, headed by Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, to Syria, where they met government officials and the parliament.
