Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai said today (Monday) that the State of Israel is on its way to becoming a dictatorship, and that the way back from this process requires bloodshed.
"According to history, countries can turn from democracy to dictatorship - but they only come back with bloodshed," said Huldai in an interview with News 13 from the demonstration complex against the legal reform in Jerusalem.
After the interview, Huldai tweeted: "Today I went up to Jerusalem in protest along with tens of thousands of concerned citizens who chose to strike and demonstrate against the change of the regime. And here is a message from me to the representatives of the Knesset: Understand, we are not going anywhere. We are here to stay, and so is Israeli democracy."
Chairman of the Noam party, MK Avi Maoz, attacked Huldai for his statement and called it an incitement. "I strongly condemn the severe words of Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai.
We do not have another country, and we do not have another people.
