Today, the Forestry Department in the Directorate of Agriculture of Homs launched a campaign to distribute forestry seedlings for free in the countryside of the province.
The head of the forestry department in the directorate, Engineer Amer Shaaban, stated during a statement to SANA reporter that the campaign comes within the framework of the initiative launched by the Ministry of Agriculture to distribute 5 free seedlings, with the aim of compensating for the loss of vegetation cover by distributing forest seedlings to citizens to plant them in the home garden or any forestry site.
According to Shaaban, the campaign included driving cars according to schedules prepared in cooperation with the extension units, to find out the citizens' needs and distribute seedlings in the extensions of Al-Suwairi and Shin in the western countryside of Homs.
For her part, the head of the Extension Department, Eng. Aisha Abbara, confirmed that the extension units spread throughout the governorate were directed to organize nominal schedules and determine the required quantities of seedlings, and to cooperate with the Forestry Department by informing farmers and citizens wishing to afforestation and participate in the campaign, noting the importance of afforestation campaigns to restore forest cover to all regions.
The afforestation plan for the current year includes planting 112 hectares in forested sites damaged by logging and fires. To date, about 65 hectares have been afforested with 35,000 saplings of various forest varieties that suit the nature of each region.
