An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck today in the Pacific Ocean, near the Kuril Islands.
The branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the island told Sputnik that the epicenter of the quake was 59 km south of the uninhabited Kuril Island and at a depth of 101 km.
