During the operation, officers arrested a 64-year-old local woman surnamed Cai on suspicion of "operating a gambling establishment", and a 28-year-old local man surnamed Lin was arrested on suspicion of "assisting in the operation of a gambling establishment".
In addition, 11 local women and 1 local man in the unit, aged between 40 and 76, were arrested on suspicion of "gambling in a gambling establishment".
During the operation, officers seized 1 baccarat table, 8 TV sets, 1 computer, 1 tablet computer, a batch of gambling equipment, about 24,000 yuan in gambling money and about 32,000 yuan in face value of chips.
All arrested men and women are now being detained for investigation.
According to the Gambling Ordinance (Chapter 148 of the Laws of Hong Kong), anyone who operates or assists in the operation of illegal casinos is liable to a maximum fine of $5 million and imprisonment for 7 years upon conviction.
It is also illegal for anyone to gamble in a casino. The first conviction is liable to a fine of 30,000 yuan and imprisonment for 9 months.
