After school, Kerstin, Sarah and Sophia spontaneously had the idea: We ring the neighbors' bells and collect money for earthquake victims.

The second graders from Pliening implemented this immediately.

Pliening – When they were still buying pretzels from the bakery after school, Kerstin, Sarah and Sophia came up with the idea: We could ring the neighbors' bells and collect money for the earthquake victims in Turkey.

Thought, said, done: The three second-graders from Plieningen went on tour in the afternoon and came home with a lot of small change.

"We also sang," says Kerstin.

"Yes, the song 'Leit', Leit', Leit'l must be funny."

That's what we're learning at school right now," says Sophia.

The girls go to the 2nd class of the Plieninger elementary school.

The three report that they learned about the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria from the news and from their parents.

They soon felt the desire to help in some way.

That's how the fundraiser came about.

"We rang the bells of people we knew," say the friends Kerstin (7 years), Sarah and Sophia (both 8).

When they came home afterwards, the parents were initially amazed: "We didn't know anything about it," says Kerstin's mom Béatrice Merk.

Of course, the parents liked the spontaneous action and increased the amount, but: "Next time we should let you know in advance," says Kerstin and grins in embarrassment.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

With the money, 55 euros, together with Béatrice Merk, they bought baby items such as diapers, which are urgently needed in the earthquake area.

After shopping, the girls packed the things in boxes, labeled them themselves, in German and (with the help of their parents) in English, and took them with Kerstin's mother to a collection point that organizes the transport of relief supplies to Turkey.

A short time later, the three friends from Pliening found out that their donations had arrived safely in Turkey.

"It's a nice feeling," says Sarah.
