MK Simcha Rothman, chairman of the Constitution Committee, said today (Monday) that he welcomes the initiative of President Yitzhak Herzog "to hold a real dialogue that will deal with ways to correct the judicial system."
However, Rothman stated that he does not intend to postpone the vote in the committee today, and emphasized that the talks should be done at the same time.
The committee will vote on the laws for first reading.
"The president of the state was here for many, both in emphasizing the importance of unity in the people of Israel and in his standing for the vital need to reform the judicial system and in describing the injustices and failures, and in fact our motives for promoting the reform and returning justice to the judicial system," he added.
Before the committee hearing began, members of the opposition factions chanted "I have no other country" and shouted "disgrace".
The coalition refuses to stop the legislation at the same time as the talks.
