The earthquake disaster: More than 34,000 people died in the massive earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria last week, and more than 80,000 were hospitalized and needed medical treatment. 

According to a publication by the Turkish government, 29,605 people were killed in the country as a result of the earthquake.

In Syria, 4,574 deaths were reported, of which 3,160 in areas controlled by the rebels and 1,414 deaths in areas controlled by Bashar al-Assad's regime. 

Meanwhile, during the night several more people were rescued from the ruins in Turkey.

In the city of Gaziantep, a 40-year-old woman named Sibal Kia was rescued from the ruins of her home after 170 hours of being trapped under the ruins.

In the city of Kahrmanmars, the rescuers managed to contact an entire family that was buried under the rubble and now tremendous efforts are being made to rescue them.

Yesterday, two couples and their baby daughter were rescued in the city by a rescue team from El Salvador, more than 160 hours after the earthquake. 

 In Syria, the humanitarian situation continues to be dire, with very little international aid reaching the areas controlled by the rebels and it is not clear how much aid has reached the territory controlled by the government in Damascus.

Yesterday, a UN humanitarian aid convoy crossed the border from Turkey as tens of tons of equipment were brought into the country from the Bab al-Hawa border crossing. 

UN assistance in crossing the border at Abu al-Hawa on his way to Syria,

"So far we have disappointed the people in northwestern Syria and failed in our mission. They feel that we have been left to their fate, and rightly so," wrote the chairman of the United Nations Aid Organization, Martin Griffiths. to allow additional crossing points into the territory of Syria.

At the same time, the United States appealed to the regime in Damascus with a request to allow the entry of UN humanitarian aid also into the territories controlled by its people.
