Trial by Lucía Pérez: six years later they return to the house of one of the suspects to carry out an inspection

2023-02-13T22:04:28.519Z

It will be this Wednesday. The Prosecutor's Office requested it and the Court granted it. This Monday, the police officers who arrested those accused of abusing and killing her declared.

Attempts to revive the young woman who had been brought "without vital signs" were in vain.

Those responsible for the health room had already called the Police and the agents, including the commissioner, lukewarmly began to look for answers.

For now, they wanted to know who the girl was.

"I only know that her name is Lucía

," the man who was "scared" and waiting outside told them.

She, it was soon learned, was Lucía Pérez.

She was 16 years old.

This Tuesday, when the fifth hearing takes place,

she would have turned 23

.

He, Matías Farías, is the suspect of having murdered her in the house he rented, at Racedo 4825, in the Alfar neighborhood, where this Wednesday there will be a visual inspection.

The prosecutor Leandro Arévalo requested it;

the Court upheld the request.

Farias, according to what the policemen who then belonged to the 13th Playa Serena police station - located on the corner of the health room - recalled, told them that that morning they had had sexual relations, that they had consumed cocaine and that she had decompensated.

For this reason, she told them, called him and asked her "compadre", Juan Pablo Offidani, the other defendant, for help.

The help consisted of taking the teenager in the bed of the truck, a Fiat Strada, to the health center.

When Offidani learned that the girl was dead, according to a witness last week, she "ploughed" out of the vehicle.

Farías stayed there.

With him as the main suspect, the police officers went to a market where a friend of Lucía's worked.

There they obtained the phone number of Matías Pérez, the victim's brother.

They also went with Farias to the house on Racedo street to look for the young woman's belongings, and with him they also went to Offidani's house.

"Offidani expressed himself normally, he wasn't scared or anything," said the then commissioner Cristian Gari: "Farias was down, a little scared, like he didn't know where to go."

Also in the house were Alejandro Maciel (indicted for concealment, acquitted in the first trial, and died in 2020), who suffered a decompensation, Gari recalled, for which they called an ambulance.

"The house was in a

state of abandonment

, there was no food of any kind, the fridge was empty..."

They were not arrested that day because the cause, they said, was still "ascertaining the cause of death."

Only on October 9, 2016, one day after the crime, did they search for him, with an arrest warrant.

They were intercepted in the same neighborhood, when they were driving the truck.

"They were reticent, but only minimal force had to be used," explained Pablo Bocca, one of the police officers who took part in the arrest of the two defendants.

They were intercepted in a private car, they were identified with police vests.

In the fifth hearing, the debate goes through the evidentiary stage.

This Tuesday they declare, among others, the director of the school that Lucía attended, residents of Farías and experts.

On Wednesday - it has not yet been defined at what time - the visual inspection will be carried out at the house where the young woman died.

Last week, the judges Gustavo Fissore, Roberto Falcone and Alexis Simaz heard from two of the victim's friends and from the experts who took part in the analysis of the autopsy results, who maintained that it was "highly probable" that the pulmonary edema that caused him death occurred as

a result of cocaine use

, and they assured that he had no signs of sexual assault.

Farías, 29, and Offidani, 47, are accused of "

sexual abuse

with carnal access, aggravated by the

supply of narcotics followed by death

in an ideal contest with

femicide

."

This new debate takes place without the presence of the public on the sixth floor of the local courts and, at the beginning, both the prosecutor's office and the lawyers for Lucía's family, Verónica Heredia and Florencia Piermarini, maintained the same accusation for the two accused.

The arguments will be heard next week.

They are tried for the second time for the act after the Buenos Aires Supreme Court confirmed the annulment of a first trial in which they were acquitted

for the crimes of femicide and sexual abuse

.

Cassation declared null that debate of November 2018 in which both defendants were sentenced to 8 years in prison for possession and sale of drugs.

Offidani completed it in Florencio Varela;

Farías in Batán.

On what would have been her 23rd birthday, "to remember everything she liked", with artistic activities and an open radio, relatives, relatives and organizations that are part of the national campaign "Somos Lucía" will gather from the 8 in the corner of the courts.
