The Commission for the Reception and Investigation of Complaints of Unidentified Flying Objects (Cridovni), which belongs to the Uruguayan Air Force, sent investigators to Paysandú, in the northwest of the country, after a series of sightings of lights red and intermittent in the sky during the night of Friday.
Dozens of people reported having seen those lights during a festival in a ranch located in the Termas de Almirón, in Paysandú.
The Air Force reported on Saturday through its Twitter account that the "commission has deployed investigators in that area of the country to gather information and interview witnesses for the purpose of starting the investigation."
The director of Public Relations of the Uruguayan Air Force, Marcelo Lorenze, confirmed to CNN that the commission moved to Almirón on Saturday afternoon to study what happened.
“Cridovni is the one who carries out these investigations and ordered the dispatch of investigators, whose task is to interview witnesses and gather elements.
In any case, the investigation is reserved," Lorenze explained, adding that in the coming days they could issue another statement if there is progress or new inquiries.

During the weekend testimonies of similar sightings were known in other parts of the country, most of them on the Uruguay River, on the border with Argentina.
The sightings occur in the context of a series of reports of the appearance of unidentified flying objects in China, the United States, and Canada.
