A group of Humedica helpers left on Monday in the direction of the Turkish-Syrian earthquake area.

The situation on the ground continues to be dramatic.

Kaufbeuren – International aid and sympathy for the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria is still great.

Bavaria also helps where it can - doctors, rescuers, helpers and relief supplies regularly find their way to the crisis area.

The Bavarian aid organization Humedica has now created another team, it was said on Monday, February 13th.

A spokesman for the organization from Kaufbeuren in Allgäu explained that a team with seven emergency services is currently on site.

Two other helpers are on their way, they have supplies such as tents and water treatment filters with them.

The location of the helpers is an emergency shelter north of Gaziantep.

There they provide medical help and support the medical team of another organization that has been working "at the limit of what is humanly feasible" for days, according to Humedica Managing Director Johannes Peter.

A three-person reconnaissance team that left for the disaster area on Wednesday, February 8th, is on its way back to Bavaria.

Seeing the destroyed houses folded up like pancakes took him a lot, reported helper Uwe Grunert according to dpa.

Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria: death toll continues to rise

The Humedica helpers now arriving in the disaster area will primarily treat lacerations and bruises, as well as infections that would often occur due to the poor hygienic conditions after disasters.

A rescue team from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) also returned to Germany on Monday.

The group of 50 had four dogs and 16 tons of technology and equipment with them.

On the night of Sunday, February 12, the team rescued an 88-year-old alive from the rubble.

The ISAR Germany team had previously rescued a 40-year-old woman - she has now succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

About a week after the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, the death toll continues to rise.

The number of confirmed dead is currently more than 37,500 people, more than 80,000 were injured.

Miracles do occasionally happen, however, and rescuers pull the living out of the rubble – but the chances of that happening are dwindling by the hour.
