Al-Baath University in Homs has formed specialized committees from its engineering cadres, whose mission is to ensure the safety of buildings and infrastructure, and teams to assess and treat cracked buildings in the university.

Dr. Abd al-Basit al-Khatib, President of Al-Baath University, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the engineering committees are composed of professors and postgraduate students working to detect and evaluate the condition of buildings within the university and the university city, and to ensure technical and structural safety while submitting reports on them.

He added: The university is ready and willing to provide more support and relief and rescue efforts, putting all its engineering and social expertise to coordinate and integrate work with those concerned in the governorate, noting the presence of volunteer medical, engineering and psychological student teams participating in relief work.

Al-Khatib indicated that the doors of the fifteenth housing unit “designated for postgraduate studies” were opened to house our people from the governorates affected by the devastating earthquake, and to the importance of the voluntary initiative set up by the leadership of the Al-Baath University branch of the National Union of Syrian Students to receive civil humanitarian support, including food, medicine, blankets and clothes, provided by students. Al-Baath University and their families to provide relief to the affected families in the governorates.
