Katja Burkard chats on the MDR Riverboat about her new cookbook, healthy eating and her childhood.
The RTL presenter reveals that she used to have a really nasty nickname as a child and that her parents' inn was to blame.

On February 10, 2023, there were Jenny Jürgens (56), Jürgen Udolph (80) and Katja Burkard (57).
The RTL presenter chatted wonderfully self-ironic about her lack of cooking skills and about her childhood.
She reveals that in the past she was often compared to a fried potato.

Katja Burkard is probably Germany's best-known celebrity expert, but now she's also trying to co-author a cookbook.
At the MDR Riverboat she talks about her relationship to food and about the fact that she doesn't really like to cook.
And that although her parents had an inn for a long time.

"I never really excelled in the kitchen because whatever you could do there, you had to work with it.
I'm really not good at cooking.
(...) But then I realized that you can't do without it," says Katja Burkard honestly.
"The nickname back then was fries," throws Riverboat presenter Matze Knop into the room.
But the RTL presenter was not called that at the time because she ate so many fries, but because she smelled like it, as she reveals.

In autumn 2022, Katja Burkard took part in the seventh season of "The Masked Singer".
Unfortunately, her appearance as "Broccoli" was very short, because the RTL presenter was the first of nine participants to drop out in Episode 1.

"But not because I ate so much, but because I used to smell like pancake fat," Katja Burkard clarifies again.
"That's why they called you French fries at school?" Matze Knop asks again.
The RTL presenter nods.
Not exactly a nice nickname, so the Riverboat presenter wants to know how she dealt with it at the time: "Did you say: Mom, I need new clothes?"

Katja Burkard laughs and then says: "You know that, don't you?
If you fry something, it sticks to your clothes, your hair, the whole house smells like it."
And at the Burkards in the inn they fried every day.
"In the beginning we didn't have such a super duper extractor hood and even our dog smelled like fries," recalls the RTL presenter.
