It is not a declaration of love for Valentine's Day that appeared on Tuesday on the monument to the Girondins, in Bordeaux.

On the night of February 13 to 14, the collective Collages Féministes Bordeaux covered the emblematic monument of the Place des Quinconces with 147 posters with the first names and ages of the femicides that took place in 2022, with the inscription: "To

our 147 fellows assassinated

”.

The term “

adelphe

” is used to replace that of brother and sister.

Femicide is murder committed against a woman because she is a woman.

The collective recalls that this type of murder "

is the most violent form of patriarchal domination

" and that "

this number represents only part of the reality of violence

".

For these activists, “

this figure is largely underestimated

” because feminicides would be “

difficult to identify because little or not covered by the media

”, citing in particular the example of forced suicides.

The collective underlines that in France, “

a woman dies every two or three days under the blows of her companion or ex-companion

”.

"What if Valentin was an assassin?"

This Bordeaux action is presented by the organization as the criticism of “

a stereotypical, archaic and misleading vision of love and romantic relationships, where happiness is found in heterosexuality and patriarchal domination

”.

And if Valentin was an assassin?

», asks the collective.

Valentine's Day often coincides with an "

increase in reports of gender-based and sexual violence

".

These activists deplore "

deadly imaginations

" and an "

injunction to be in a relationship

".

Deploring that 30% of perpetrators of feminicides have already been sentenced by the courts for acts of violence, that 29% of complaints are not forwarded to the public prosecutor and that 80% of complaints are dismissed (according to the count of the collective We All), Collages Féministes Bordeaux proposes several measures to the government: the refusal of any complaint, no closed investigation "

as long as a woman is not protected

" and the application of existing measures: protect victims, train judges , police, teachers and nursing staff and carry out "

a real policy of education for non-violence and equality at school

".

This is the third year that this action has taken place in Bordeaux.

The collective also deplores that in 2021, the collages were "

degraded by far-right activists

" and that in 2022, the Generation Zemmour group would have "

proudly taken off each letter, each first name, each femmage

(tribute paid to a woman, editor's note)

that we stuck with the emotion linked to these murders

".

Contacted by

Le Figaro

, the town hall of Bordeaux has not yet reacted.

Emilie, Anna, Marie, Melanie, Annie and Nathalie.

So many first names of women murdered in 2022 "

overwhelmingly by cis men

".
