The cabaret artist Monika Gruber jumps to the artist's side.

Munich – Roland Hefter has been on the city council for the SPD since 2020.

The 55-year-old is best known as a singer-songwriter.

A man who doesn't mince his words and also shows a clear edge to the right.

With his new song Gender Police, the artist suddenly finds himself caught between all political chairs: applause from the conservatives, attacks from the left - and awkward silence from his own party, the Social Democrats.

Munich: City Councilor Roland Hefter sings a gender song – SPD colleagues remain silent

Which gives a deep insight, because the Munich SPD, in its coalition with the Greens, feels obliged to use gender-neutral language in the town hall.

And therefore obviously sees no reason to defend party colleagues against the sometimes severe criticism on social media.

In the song, Hefter makes fun of gender language and gender asterisks, singing about the sidewalk, about the pediatric nurse or about the police officer.

In the tavern he is served a shandy.

That's too much for the artist because it all "just sounds so crappy", although he is an advocate of equality.

It was foreseeable that he would offend with this satirical song.

Hefter cannot believe that some want to put him in the right corner for this: "Some seem to really believe that all people who have a problem with gender are on the far right.

And next, everyone who drives, eats meat, and flies on vacation is a Nazi?” the artist writes in a replica on Facebook.

He just wanted to look at the matter with humor.

Gender debate in Munich City Council: Monika Gruber defends Roland Hefter

Stapler gets help from cabaret artist Monika Gruber, who comments on the Instagram platform with a video.

"The moralizers are getting angry about my friend and colleague, Hefter," explains Gruber.

She doesn't know any woman in her circle of acquaintances "who insists on being called citizens," she argues.

You could say “citizens”, but she doesn’t think a gender asterisk makes sense.

It is much more important that women finally get the same salary as men.

The CSU parliamentary group leader in the city council, Manuel Pretzl, also protects the comrades.

To accuse Hefter of being close to right-wing extremism goes beyond the bounds of decency, says Manuel Pretzl: "Anyone who knows Roland knows that he fights for tolerance, diversity and democracy." (
