Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari welcomed the visit of a Russian government delegation to the Syrian embassy, considering that such visits alleviate the suffering.
Al-Jaafari confirmed the falsehood and hypocrisy of the West when he claimed that the sanctions do not include humanitarian aid, and he is the one who imposed illegal economic sanctions on Syria and deprived it of it for 12 years.
In turn, the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman in Moscow, Hammoud bin Salem Al Tuwayh, offered condolences to the earthquake victims, expressing sympathy and solidarity with the injured and affected.
The representative of the International Organization for Humanitarian Relief in the Russian Federation, Maria Carmela de Batista, also expressed the organization's readiness to provide some aspects of humanitarian relief support to Syria, stressing that the organization stands by the Syrian people in their painful ordeal.
In her turn, Valentina Lantseva, head of the St. Paul's Fund, announced the volume of in-kind humanitarian aid collected by the fund, primarily equipment for removing rubble, as well as tents needed for shelter, medicine and baby food.
The editor-in-chief of the Russian magazine “The Country’s Personality”, Elisabetta Abramova, also expressed her condolences and solidarity with the Syrian people, and made every effort to contribute to containing the repercussions of the devastating earthquake, while Sheikh Qasim Adelbekov, spokesman for the Mufti of Belarus, Abu Bakr Shaikhanovich, conveyed his sincere condolences to the friendly Syrian people, expressing the standing of the Muslims of Belarus. And the world is at every moment alongside their brothers in Syria, announcing the collection of in-kind and material donations and their dispatch of the Belarusian Ministry of Emergencies team.
In an interview conducted by the Russian TV channel Moscow, Ambassador Al-Jaafari noted the importance of the assistance provided by brotherly and friendly countries, including the Russian Federation, to mitigate the consequences of the earthquake and the suffering of those affected.
The ambassador explained that the aid is partly transported by Russian military aviation, and some is transported by Syrian airlines, stressing that Syria has now passed the rescue stage and has begun the stage of removing and evacuating rubble and rebuilding what was destroyed by the earthquake.
