From 1993 to 2019, six pension reforms were carried out.
They (almost) all aroused strong protest.
The presidents and heads of government then in charge resisted in various ways.
1993: Balladur remains at the zenith
This is a unique case in the history of pension reform.
That of the summer of 1993 passed like a letter in the mail.
Without strike, without demonstration, without political tension.
However, it was not the least ambitious, because not only did it suddenly increase by two and a half years the number of years of contribution required, from 37.5 to 40 years, but it modified the method of calculating pensions - over the 25 and no longer the 10 best years - and indexed them to inflation in order to limit their progression.

The reform was inspired by the white paper ordered by Michel Rocard and of which this one that he had what

The popularity rating of Édouard Balladur has nevertheless remained at its zenith.
