At least 60 fires are currently being fought in the southern region of Chile, according to the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, after the last meeting of the Committee for Risk and Disaster Management.
Of this total, 12 are considered "relevant" and affect the regions of Maule, Ñuble, Biobío, Los Ríos and Araucanía.
Monsalve stressed that the progress of the fires has been contained and that during the last 72 hours it was not necessary to issue evacuation alerts to nearby towns.
Even so, he was emphatic in pointing out that the emergency continues.

“The emergency is not over.
The risk conditions are going to be maintained”, stressed the official.
Nearly 3,200 firefighters are fighting the flames, which according to the authorities have already consumed more than 420,000 hectares.
For its part, the Chilean government received on Tuesday a group of 83 French brigade members who will assist in the emergency.
According to official data, 24 people died from causes associated with the fires.
Fires
