Today, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, launched a humanitarian appeal to raise $397 million for the relief of those affected by the earthquake in Syria.
Guterres said in an interview with reporters, according to what was reported by the United Nations News Center, that the disaster is one of the largest disasters in recent memory, as millions suffer a week after the devastating earthquake, explaining that the appeal covers humanitarian needs in Syria for a period of three months, and that the United Nations is doing everything What is possible, stressing the need for more.
Guterres sent an urgent message to the international community, saying: The human suffering caused by this massive natural disaster must not be exacerbated by obstacles such as the difficulty of humanitarian access, lack of funding and supplies.. The passage of aid must be ensured from all sides to all sides, through all roads without any restrictions. .
The Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed the need for the international community to approach the spirit of generosity and humanity of the Syrian people, who received refugees from neighboring countries, provided them with protection, and participated with them in relief efforts fully and without delay, and helped millions of children, women and men whose lives were upended by the earthquake disaster.
Guterres stated that the response efforts in Syria include the entire United Nations system and its humanitarian partners, and that it is helping to secure much-needed and life-saving relief, including shelter, health care and food, noting that the most effective way to stand by people at the present time is to provide emergency funding.
