It was dismantled in 2002 and now it's back: the oldest barn in the Freising district.

The Marzlingen carpenter Günter Krieglsteiner is almost there.

Marzling

– past and present meet under this roof.

The 18th and 21st centuries are intertwined here: carpenter Günter Krieglsteiner is almost at the end of his decades-long mission.

He rebuilt a 250-year-old baroque barn in Marzling, which was removed in Ampertshausen in 2002 and should have been used for firewood - in its original size: 21 meters long, 12 meters wide, 10.5 meters high.

"It's an amazing feeling that the barn is standing again after more than 20 years," emphasizes Krieglsteiner, who has fond childhood memories of the agricultural building.

He enjoys the interplay of the dark and light bars.

The dark wood is material from the original barn, which could still be used after being stored for a long time.

The light wood is new, but also spruce, which is processed using traditional methods.

It was not sawn, but only beaten and chopped so that the wood becomes narrower towards the top in the shape of the tree.

The ratio of new to old is around 60:40.

Now the Stadl presents itself with two faces

Originally, Krieglsteiner had planned to darken the color of the light wood in order to create a uniform character, but backed away from this.

"I think it's nicer that you can now see both faces of the barn - as it looked brand new in 1771 and as it has now optically developed after two and a half centuries."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

A few days ago, the craftsman-philosopher celebrated Hebweih and amazed the visitors.

The outer walls will be built in the coming days.

"The goal is for the barn to be completely finished in June," says Krieglsteiner.

The first have already asked if they can celebrate their birthday there.

In the future, the historic building is to become a center of Marzlingen, where a small café or a shop with regional products could be built.
