In the middle of the school holiday period, the small Maralpine resort relies on snowmaking and the development of activities other than skiing to attract and delight tourists.

While in Isola 2000, Auron or Valberg (three resorts in the Alpes-Maritimes), the snow is there to welcome holidaymakers in mid-February, the situation is not looking good in Gréolières.

The small resort perched at an altitude of 1400 meters is sorely lacking in white.

Of the 26 slopes in the area, only six are open to winter sports enthusiasts.

Five green and one red - and again, the latter is only partially green.

"Yes, we don't have two meters of snow!"

Exclaims an employee of the tourist office.

To compensate for this lack, the snow cannons are running at full speed, just to plug the holes here and there.

“We are currently on a snow cover culture but it is quite possible that a snowy episode happens from one day to another.

It has already happened that there have been very heavy snowfalls late in the season”

, assures Damien Mattéoli, in charge of communication at Gréolières.

While waiting for providence, the resort is adapting to satisfy tourists as much as possible.

“We save the furniture!

Continues Damien Matteoli.

Anyway, the green slopes are more than enough for children and beginner skiers, it's even paradise for them

.

No need to go to Isola when you start.

The latter also wishes to recall that Gréolières is first and foremost a

"family"

resort and that from this point of view, tourists find their account there.

“We are reinventing ourselves with a wide program of four-season activities”

, he explains.

Thus, if they don't have spatulas, holidaymakers can take advantage of tree climbing or the resort's bouncy castle, or even a pony ride, a snowshoe outing or a few "Snooc" descents, a sort of toboggan placed on a ski.

In any case, the lack of snow would not have a significant impact on attendance at the resort.

“We continue to attract tourists even without a lot of snow.

Here, this morning an equipment rental company told me that he was out of ski boots for sizes 28 to 32”,

points out the communication manager.

"

And then all the same, the location of the station offers a 360-degree view, over the sea in particular, and even sometimes over Corsica, it's unique in France!"

he concludes.
