After Lychee, a Nancy Maltese type dog, ate chocolate without her owners knowing about it, she started vomiting, diarrhea, writhing and suffocating - and almost died • After receiving medical treatment, her condition improved significantly • What should be done in such a case?

Every dog owner knows that chocolate can cause poisoning of the beloved pet, and in some cases - even death.

This is almost exactly what happened to Litchi, who was left alone in her house, ate chocolate - and almost died.

• Not just ignoring: this is how you will know that your dog does not like your partner

• After a long struggle: the animal corner in Yarkon Park will be closed

The story of Litchi, a Maltese type dog Nancy, began when her owner, Silva Yosebshuili, left for her job at the hospital, leaving the dog alone at home.

Apparently, Lychee jumped on a table in the kitchen - and ate some chocolate that was apparently on it.

The exact amount is unknown, but for a dog that weighs 3.5 kilograms, it is a large amount.

When Yusebshuili's son came home at 11:00, he discovered that the sofas and lychee were completely soiled with chocolate - in addition to the dog's vomit, which was scattered throughout the house.

The son decided not to go to his job and stay at home, to make sure everything was okay with Lychee, and after a few hours he left the place.

Screamed in pain.

At 5:00 p.m., another son of Yousabshuili arrived, and found Litchi vomiting and having diarrhea.

After a telephone consultation, he decided to take the dog to the vet, where she underwent tests and was given activated charcoal (designed to prevent the absorption of unwanted substances from the intestine into the body), fluids and antiemetics.

At the end of the treatment, the second returned home for supervision.

A few hours later, towards night, Lychee started shaking, choking, writhing, breathing heavily and screaming in pain every time she was touched.

The family immediately transferred her to Beit Dagan veterinary hospital for treatment, where she was hospitalized overnight, underwent tests and treatments of gastric cleansing and fluid intake.

After 24 hours of hospitalization and observation in the hospital, Litchi was released to her home - and since then she feels well and has returned to herself after her difficult adventure.

According to Dr. Shiri Rom-Taper, a veterinarian for Hayuta, many dog owners think that eating chocolate only "causes worms or diarrhea" in the animal, but in reality it is life-threatening - and cannot be treated, apart from providing supportive care.

"The reason for the high toxicity of chocolate for dogs is that it contains a substance called theobromine - which dogs, unlike humans, cannot break down," explains Dr. Rom-Tepper. "The signs of chocolate poisoning in dogs are varied and range from vomiting and diarrhea to dehydration, heavy breathing And restlessness, frequent drinking and urination, increased heart rate and even convulsions and heart failure.

The degree of toxicity depends on the type of chocolate (the more bitter and better quality it is, the more toxic it is, because it contains more theobromine), the size of the dog (the smaller it is, the more sensitive it will be) and the amount eaten."

She concluded her words by saying that in case there is a suspicion that a dog has eaten chocolate, it should be urgently taken to the vet in order to make it vomit as soon as possible.

The main thing is that at the end she is smiling.
