A new free exhibition is presented at the eco-citizen house in Bordeaux, on the quays, from this Wednesday until March 11.
With several photographs taken on SOS Méditerranée ships, the idea is to " make
the work carried out by this association
as concrete as possible ", explains Pierre Hurmic.
For the mayor of Bordeaux, “
supporting SOS Méditerranée is undeniably giving hope and we need it
”.
Present at the inauguration, François Thomas, president of the French branch of the association, explains that “
rescue at sea is a moral duty before being
a legal obligation
”.
He recalls that SOS Méditerranée has already rescued 37,352 people since its creation, always with three missions: "
save, protect, testify
".
Through this exhibition highlighting women, François Thomas hopes to carry out this third mission and "
to put back the human in a tragedy that disturbs at the gates of Europe
".
10,000 euros annual grant
Just like the department, which will allocate 50,000 euros to SOS Méditerranée, not without attracting some criticism, the city of Bordeaux subsidizes the association up to 10,000 euros per year, recalls Pierre Hurmic.
Funding that goes hand in hand with this exhibition.
"
It is important to show that we are in the human, that it is women and children about to drown
" who are rescued, recalls the city councilor.
“
We are not in theory.

This exhibition “
shows the reality of rescue operations in the central Mediterranean
”, and therefore chooses to focus “
on the rescued women, the women who save and the women who testify
”.
Photographs to celebrate "
the power to act
" of women, through different prisms: "
that of women in exile, women humanitarians, women volunteers, rescued women and women who reach out to them
", specifies SOS Méditerranée .

Another exhibition of SOS Méditerranée is also on display in the hotel in the Gironde department, until March 2.
Entitled “A citizen commitment”, it “
allows us to show the articulation between
the climate crisis
and the migration crisis
”.
The photographs presented "
invite awareness of the vital action of public authorities and local authorities to support those who refuse to abandon lives
".
The exhibition highlights women rescued, in exile, volunteers and humanitarians.
