After checking the e-mail traffic with the Hamburg authorities, the city of Kiel has admitted that it has received more messages about the suspect in Brokstedt's knife attack than previously known.
"As a result, it can be determined that two e-mails, as presented by Senate representatives of the Free and Hanseatic City, were received by the state capital Kiel," said a spokeswoman on Wednesday.
Kiel – It is a response from the Hamburg police of March 10, 2022, which was found in the personal mailbox of the responsible employee, and a response from the Billwerder prison of May 6, 2022 to queries from the city.
It was previously known that the Kiel immigration department found out in an email on May 4, 2022 that the alleged perpetrator Ibrahim A. had been arrested and then asked for further information.
After information from the Hamburg authorities, the city of Kiel checked the e-mail traffic between Hamburg and the immigration department again in detail.
At the same time, however, the city raised allegations against the authorities in Hamburg.
The city of Kiel was not informed about the detention of Ibrahim A. via the legally prescribed route: "The extensive internal research that has now been completed has not revealed any further information transfers, in particular the legally required notifications (MiStra notifications and information requirements under the Residence Act ) have not been sent to the immigration department in Kiel according to the current state of knowledge or - with regard to the notification of the release from prison - were made too late."
The Brokstedt case is a topic in the judiciary committee of the Hamburg Parliament on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Palestinian Ibrahim A. is said to have attacked other passengers with a knife on the regional train from Kiel to Hamburg on January 25 and killed two young people.
Five other people were injured.
A few days before the crime, A. had been released from custody in Hamburg.
