In his Tyrolean homeland, the knowledgeable doctor must now be replaced.

Ellmau – “Der Bergdoktor” is now happening in quick succession: The season finale (February 23, at 8:15 p.m. on ZDF) presents Dr.

Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl, 53) and his loved ones face an uncertain future: After the doctor fell out with his brother Hans (Heiko Ruprecht, 50), he moves to New York to his ex Franziska (Simone Hanselmann, 43).

He leaves a gap in picturesque Tyrol.

But a replacement is already available.

Bergdoktor Martin Gruber moves to New York – Hans Sigl's role gives practice to his successor

Warning, spoilers:

In the "Bergdoktor" season finale, two other family members leave the Gruberhof in addition to Martin - the blessing of the house is therefore very crooked.

The eponymous hero, embodied by Hans Sigl, has found his own way of dealing with the chaos: he backs out and leaves his homeland to go to New York indefinitely.

The mountain doctor is therefore giving up his practice in Ellmau, his home town.

His (former) patients will soon be cared for by someone else: Dr.

Monika Gassinger (Sabine Menne, 46) succeeds Martin Gruber.

The experienced doctor makes no secret of her interest in the premises and promptly receives an offer:

Initially, she is only to represent Martin for six months.

But: “If everything turns out differently than I imagine, then it could be that I won’t come back at all.

That means they have the option of buying the practice," said the Tyrolean before his planned departure.

Hans Sigl's secret guest role in "Der Bergdoktor"

Since 2008, Hans Sigl has embodied the title hero Martin Gruber in "Der Bergdoktor".

The exciting life of the country doctor inspires millions of loyal fans with every episode and has made his actor one of the biggest stars of German television.

But what very few people know: the role as the son of Lisbeth Gruber is not Hans Sigl's first "Bergdoktor" appearance.

Because ten years before he slipped into the white doctor's coat, he was already seen as a taxi driver in the popular series that was still running on Sat.1 at the time and in which Gerhard Lippert, a completely different mountain doctor, was the focus.

Who knows - maybe an extra from the ZDF remake will one day succeed Hans Sigl?

Is everything different in the end with the “Bergdoktor”?

– Martin Gruber's plans could fail

Martin Gruber estimates the probability that he will turn his back on Ellmau forever as "high": The mountain doctor actually ends up in New York, while his practice may be taken over by Dr.

Gassinger - plans that will most likely be thrown out again in season 17.

However, the fans will have to be patient until then: the next season of the ZDF series will start at the end of 2023 at the earliest.

The dramatic "Bergdoktor" season finale at least provides information about how things could continue for Martin and Co.
