The countdown is on: soon the region's most visited funfair will be rolling through Olching.

The Estinger boys are there with an XXL vehicle and a childhood hero: Super Mario.

Olching - The structure of the car was complex, the conditions do not necessarily make it easier.

Just like the diesel driving ban.

The anticipation is still huge.

Red cap, bulbous nose, mustache and blue dungarees: these are the hallmarks of one of the most famous Nintendo characters.

Super Mario has accompanied many children and young people on the Gameboy and the game console, and certainly one or the other adult (even now).

Now he has a whole new role: he rolls down Olchinger Hauptstrasse with the Estinger boys on Shrove Tuesday.

so many problems

The background is actually not as funny as it is often the case with the theme cars.

The vice-chairman of the boys, Tobias Röger, 23 years old, explains what has been considered for the first carnival procession since the pandemic.

“There are so many problems in the world, Corona, war.

We wanted to bring back the heroes of our childhood.” According to the motto: If politics fails, Super Mario has to come.

work since September

And there he is now.

Since September, around ten Estingen boys have been screwing, hammering and brushing on the structure of the truck trailer.

Sometimes they met once a week on Saturday, sometimes every two weeks.

"We were busy with it for months," reports Röger.

But the work was worth it.

The result is a rather impressive vehicle with a total length of nine meters.

A wagon is built on top of it, which represents the characters from the motley Super Mario world.

Princess, toadstool, turtle and of course Luigi (the one with the green cap - everything you know.

Finally carnival procession again: The Estinger boys and their companions had their carriage premiere at the parade of the Damische Ritter in Munich.

According to Röger, it is not possible to say exactly how much money was invested in this.

"But it must have been a few thousand euros." Nevertheless, nobody here harbors a grudge that the wagon builders have to pay a carnival solo for the first time this year.

That's two euros per participant.

This was announced by the Olching carnival parade committee, which pointed out the immense cost increases for security, among other things.

Of course, this doesn't just affect the people of Olching, the organizers of the traditional Hemadlenzn event in Dorfen also groaned under the immensely increased costs - and conditions.

provisions

"We understand all of this, but it won't get any easier," Tobias Röger admits very clearly.

Around 30 people will probably cavort on top of the car.

A seat must be created for them.

There are also decibel restrictions, glass bottle embargo – and the diesel driving ban in Munich.

That too became a challenge.

"We had to get special permission." They just wanted to be sure that the Bulldog pulling the vehicle was actually complying with the regulations.

"But we had a new one that met the pollutant guidelines." The Estinger carnival float had its premiere on Sunday during the parade of the Damische Ritter.

And on the coming Shrove Tuesday the time has finally come: Olching will once again become a carnival stronghold.

"And we're really looking forward to it." Now nothing can go wrong: Because Super Mario is there.

Carnival procession in Olching

It should not only be awaited with great enthusiasm by the wagon builders: Next Tuesday, February 21, the fun worm will roll through the center of Olching again.

25 cars are allowed to take part, the safety regulations do not allow more, plus foot groups.

It starts at 2 p.m.

The starting point is Feursstraße at Daxerstraße, the end of Nöscherplatz, where the hustle and bustle continues to the end of the carnival sprint.

Please note: the roads are closed to motorists on this day.
