The Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport, Dr. Ali Hamieh, discussed today with a delegation from the European Union a mechanism for receiving European humanitarian aid for earthquake victims in Syria, through Lebanese facilities.

The European Union delegation affirmed during the meeting that “the European Union will provide aid to Syria as it provided it to Lebanon following the Beirut port explosion in August 2020, reviewing the options it deems appropriate to facilitate the process of transferring aid to Syria, whether through the Lebanese airport or ports,” noting that this is the time The first is that the European Union transfers aid through the territory of a third country to reach another country.

In turn, Minister Hamieh said: “Lebanon is Syria in facing the repercussions of this earthquake,” explaining that the decision to open air and sea facilities to receive humanitarian aid from countries, institutions and international organizations, and to exempt them from airport and port fees to face the repercussions of the earthquake that struck Syria came through our national duty It is moral to stand by it, despite the difficult economic conditions we are going through at all levels.

Hamieh pointed out that his ministry has put in place all the facilities to speed up the arrival of aid, in addition to making the necessary contacts with all concerned parties present at the border facilities and crossings, to ensure the ease and speed of entry and delivery of this aid to those who deserve it.

The EU delegation included the Head of Delegation of the European Union, Martin Lassen Skilf, and the Officer of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, Simon Licomati.
