Harsh criticism of Ben Gvir by the police: "He is working to transfer the Mageb and Yosh to him contrary to our position" | Israel today

Severe criticism in the police of the minister in charge: "An uncoordinated move, no discussion took place" • A senior official in the system: "There are no two commanders for the same force" • The proposal will be submitted for approval on Sunday • Ben Gvir: "A professional decision"

Senior officials accuse the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, of working to transfer responsibility for the Yosh Police Department to his own domain.

This, without coordination with the Commissioner of the Police, R.N. Yaakov Shabtai and the Chief of the Police, Superintendent Amir Cohen, and when the professional position of the police is to postpone the decision.

The Israel Police were surprised yesterday, and not for the first time, by the independent intentions of the chairman of Otzma Yehudit Itamar Ben Gvir. At the cabinet meeting that is expected to take place on Sunday, the decision to transfer the Yosh Police Department from the responsibility of the Minister of Defense, Major General (ret.) Yoav Galant, will come up , to the police.

Another front in the government?

Ben Gvir's demand to transfer the powers to him comes against the background of the difficult events this week, in which the Yosh MP fighters attacked MK Limor Son Har Melech (Otzma Yehudit) during the evacuation of the vineyard in Binyamin and repelled the settlers.

According to the minister's plan, in the first stage, Mageb Yosh will be transferred from the IDF to the police, and later he will join the National Guard that will be established. Closers claim that the decision was known and that Ben Gabir discussed the details with senior police officers, but with some of the senior command in organizing the minister's actions are interpreted as one-sided.

A senior police officer told "Israel Hayom" that the position of the minister is completely different from the professional position of the police, and that no in-depth discussion took place with any relevant party.

"Stateism is over," said the officer, "and restraints are also over. In the long run, the police and Ben Gvir will lose. There are spirits of indignation among the fighters."

The remarks refer to the minister's unusual announcement after the events in the Binyamin vineyard.

In the message he published, which received an unusual response from the commander of the Mageb, the minister accused the fighters of harming MK Son Har Melech, without holding an investigation with the commissioner or the commander of the Mageb.

Senior police officials disagree with Minister Ben Gabir on the issue of the Yosh Police Department.

The main reason for this is that the IDF is the sovereign in the territories of Judea and Samaria. "There will not be two commanders for the same force," said a senior police officer. "This is a quasi-military police force, including undercover officers who know the area well."

Recently, a senior officer warned that if the Yosh Police Department leaves the IDF, the police will suffer a fatal blow, given the fact that the Police Department receives its strength from conscripts.

"This makes the corps young, fast, combative and professional. This is high-quality human capital, which if expropriated from the IDF - the building of the force will collapse."

"Selective enforcement".

Tensions have recently prevailed between the minister and the police also around the growing protest regarding the legal reform.

The minister claims selective enforcement, and even summoned the commander of the Jerusalem district, Superintendent Doron Turgeman, for a personal conversation, without updating the commissioner.

In closed conversations, the minister claimed that he intended to appoint advisers to the commissioner in the form of three retired superintendents, and the commissioner's associates were quick to reply that he did not need advice.

In the meantime, the Shabtai Police Department sent an unusual backup message to the police: "We will always remain state-owned, and we will make decisions without extraneous considerations other than the law."

Opposition elements also expressed strong opposition to the move.

MK Merav Ben Ari (Yesh Atid), who serves as the chairman of the Internal Security Committee, expressed himself decisively: "The derailment of a minister who does not understand the police and the army, and does enormous damage to the law enforcement systems. The last thing the government should do is transfer the authority to him On the Yosh MGB.

Ben Gabir's office said: "The minister met with the police commissioner and the head of the MGB, and consulted with them at length. In his last meeting with the head of the MGB, the latter presented his professional worldview to the minister.

The decision to move the Yosh Police Department is professional, and was intended for the establishment of the National Guard."

The police refused to respond to the news.
