Ukrainian forces are attacked by the Russian army in the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk (Telegram)
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said today (Thursday) that his country is ready to join the war alongside the Russians against Ukraine if the latter attacks on its territory.
"It is enough for a single soldier with a weapon to enter our territory from Ukraine," he warned at a foreign media press conference.
In a conversation with the journalists, Lukashenko accused the Western countries of "fueling" the war in Ukraine.
"If you continue this, we will reach a situation of nuclear weapons, and Russia has more than everyone else," he warned.
"That's why we need to stop this. If a nuclear war starts, Belarus will cease to exist. We need to enter into negotiations because such a war will also eliminate the United States.
No one needs that."
Russia and Belarus have expanded their military cooperation in recent months, and have held joint military exercises. In the past, Lukashenko claimed that he would not join the war against Ukraine, but during the last year the territory of Belarus was used by Russia for an attack on Ukraine.
If we are attacked - we will join the fight against Ukraine.

At the end of December, Putin made a rare visit to the capital of Belarus, Minsk.
The Russian leader met with Lukashenko regularly, but until then he did so closer to his seat in Russia.
This meeting in Belarus was held for the first time since 2019, and raised concern in the world that it was pushing for military support for the Russians.
