The ruling junta in Mali has expressed its desire to apply "

intelligently

" the peace agreement signed in 2015 with the rebels in the north, in the midst of tension between the parties.

An official supporting the junta last week predicted an imminent resumption of hostilities, fueling doubts about the survival of the agreement.

International mediation

The so-called Algiers Accord signed in 2015 by the Malian state and loyalist groups with a Tuareg-dominated alliance of separatist and separatist groups ended hostilities sparked by the 2012 separatist and Salafist insurgencies in the North.

The jihadists continue to fight and the security crisis has spread to central Mali as well as to neighboring Burkina Faso and Niger.

The Algiers agreement has been in bad shape for years.

The alliance of separatist and autonomist groups, the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA), announced in December that it was suspending its participation in the implementation of the agreement.

International mediation, with Algeria in a prominent role, has been working for weeks to bring the parties together.

One of the strong men of the junta, Colonel Major Ismaël Wagué, Minister of Reconciliation, received the ambassadors of mediation on Tuesday, the ministry said on Facebook in a press release consulted Thursday by AFP.

The minister assured the ambassadors "

of the transition government's commitment and willingness to work for an intelligent implementation of the agreement resulting from the Algiers process

", the statement said.

Restore Authority

At the end of last week, Amadou Albert Maïga, member of the National Council of the Transition (CNT) which acts as a legislative body, declared that the Malian army would soon begin operations to restore the authority of the central State over Kidal (north), strategic city controlled by the CMA.

War is inevitable in Kidal

,” said Amadou Albert Maïga.

His remarks "

were mentioned

" during Tuesday's meeting, said an adviser to the minister on condition of anonymity.

But the meeting itself "

is a continuation of the search for a solution to unblock the agreement

", he added.

Amadou Albert Maïga's remarks have been widely reproduced and commented on on social networks.

They did not elicit an official reaction from the authorities.

However, the Collective for the Defense of the Military (CDM) said Wednesday in a press release to join "

its voice to that of Dr Amadou Maïga (...) for the total liberation

" of Kidal by the army.

The

CMA's "

crazy dream " of independence "

is largely responsible for the cul-de-sac into which Mali has been plunged for more than a decade

", says this organization, one of the most vocal and junta offensives.

The CDM's links with the junta are obscure, but the organization is considered influential.
