A new appeal has just been filed by the environmental collective Sauvons les Gohards in an attempt to abort the Doulon-Gohards urban project.

Accompanied by local residents, these activists, supported in particular by the Libertarian Communist Union of Nantes, Extinction Rebellion or Youth For Climate, denounce the concreting of 50 hectares of market gardening land, east of Nantes.

This artificialization project is part of the creation of a

“new district mixing urban agriculture, natural spaces, housing and services”

, by 2035, on a total of 180 hectares, financed by the State.

Last week, the uprooting of trees began in the Gohards North area.

According to the Nantes Métropole Aménagement explanatory brochure, this phase corresponds to the construction of 380 housing units at the level of the “

Vallon des Gohards

”, “

where life is good in the heart of revealed nature

”.

But for Sauvons les Gohards, all of this amounts to “

greenwashing

”.

In a press release, the members denounce an “

ecological massacre

” with the felling of 165 trees: “

We wonder if it is not more,

wonders Morgane Petiteau, member of the collective

.

We can't count them because every night they are kidnapped

”.

A fence has also been installed:

Nantes Métropole justifies the destruction of trees, the earthworks and the installation of a fence two meters high by the installation of an eco-grazing area.

We are not fooled: this is not a simple fence for sheep but privatization and destruction

,” denounce the activists.

Contacted, the Nantes Métropole Aménagement services refuse to comment on the progress of the work: “

We have received the filing of a request for interim relief.

A hearing is set for March 1.

We can remember at that time.

A “resistance assembly” organized on Sunday

This appeal for interim relief against the environmental authorization was filed last week at the start of the work which "

endangers the site

", says Morgane Petiteau.

According to naturalist counter-expertise carried out on site, "

two protected species not identified in the environmental authorizations

" were brought to light.

These are amphibious voles (rodents) and bullfinches (birds), “

protected at regional, national and European level

”.

Through this discovery, she hopes that this emergency procedure, which makes it possible to ask the judge to immediately stop a decision, will stop the site.

Previously, the opponents had warned the metropolis by mail of the presence of these species: "

they said that they had taken our request into account but we had no other news

", indicates the spokesperson, for justify the action in court.

Two other legal actions have already been taken but are long-term.

One is an appeal against the building permit in order to “

contest urban planning rules

”.

The other is against the environmental authorization issued: “

they are supposed to prove that they have no choice but to destroy these lands

”.

For Sauvons les Gohards, who denounces the concreteization of the premises and the artificialization of the soil, the dwellings could be built elsewhere, “in

particular in Paridis, instead of an extension of the commercial area

”.

Or at Notre-Dame du Bon Conseil, this establishment located near Place Graslin, which had been squatted by La Maison du Peuple before an eviction in 2021.

Sunday, at 3 p.m., Save the Gohards gives an appointment to the opponents in a field located at the end of the rue du Loiret, for a "

resistant assembly

".
