The UN decision follows the government's decision on the "training" of nine illegal outposts in the West Bank and turning them into new settlements. After the decision, the Palestinian Authority held talks with members of the UN Security Council to promote a discussion against Israel and especially against the Cabinet's decision on construction in the settlements.
In response to the decision, an American senior official said that the Biden administration "is strongly opposed to the expansion of the settlements and is concerned about the reports of the intention to qualify illegal outposts according to Israeli law".
The next day, the foreign ministers of the United States, France, Germany, Great Britain and Italy issued a statement in identical terms.
