The evacuation only sharpened: the division of powers in the Ministry of Defense is doomed to failure Israel today

Smotrich has already made it clear that he will not compromise on what was signed in the coalition agreements • Gallant opposes, and with him the entire top of the security establishment • In these sensitive days, the superior level is required to behave moderately, and of course legally

Yesterday's evacuation of the vineyard in the Shiloh Valley flooded the known in advance: the division of powers in the Ministry of Defense between Yoav Galant and Bezalel Smotrich is impossible, and doomed to failure or an explosion.

It is difficult to understand Smotrich's claims, and those of his partner-rival, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir.

Both of them, as well as Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Galant, knew in advance about the evacuation.

And not only them - the hills also knew, and prepared for it in advance.

Dozens of young people were waiting for the police officers who arrived at the scene and tried to prevent and disrupt the evacuation, without success.

From the videos that were distributed, it appears that during the evacuation excessive force was used in some cases, a matter that requires an investigation.

The treatment of member of the Knesset Limor Son Har-Malech was also disrespectful, to say the least, and it would have been good if the police had prepared to carry it out with female police officers.

But Ben Gabir's conclusion - that the incident shows that the Yosh MGB companies must be transferred to his responsibility - is not serious, to say the least.

The MGB is a professional body, which knows how to function well even without the advice of the rookie minister in charge of it, and the last thing that is needed now in YUS is a political army that acts for whimsical and irrelevant motives.

The vineyard is being evacuated because the High Court ruled that it was planted on private Palestinian land. The owner of the vineyard, Chen Ben Eliyahu, had already committed to vacate it in 2021, but did not do so. Therefore, the security forces were prepared to carry out the ruling, as mentioned - with the knowledge and approval of the political echelon.

The criticism of this by the ministers and MKs in the extreme right-wing parties in the government requires them to answer some obvious questions: Do they not intend to respect the law and the rulings when they are not convenient for them? Do they intend to take over private lands and build on them? And how do they intend to deal with the expected international criticism About these moves, especially on the part of the US?

Smotrich and Ben Gvir said yesterday that the government's current policy is contrary to the coalition agreements, and hinted that this could jeopardize its existence.

It seems like an idle threat, but Netanyahu, in an attempt to silence the criticism, yesterday ordered a halt to the uprooting of the olive trees (after the vast majority of the 800 trees had already been uprooted).

But the prime minister is clear that this is paracetamol: yesterday's evacuation was hardly a prelude to the ills expected in his government regarding the distribution of powers in the Ministry of Defense and the settlement policy in the Yosh.

Smotrich has already made it clear that he does not intend to compromise on less than what was agreed upon, i.e. - the transfer of civilian powers in the United States to his hands. Gallant opposes this, along with the entire top of the security establishment. The main pressure is exerted by the US, which has made it clear that such a move is de facto annexation of the area.

It is an implicit threat, the political, security and economic consequences of which may be extensive, and it requires, at the very least, serious discussions, which have not yet taken place.

Beyond that, Yosh (and possibly Gaza as well) is on the brink of a wide-scale security flare-up, and tensions will increase in the coming weeks - the eve of Ramadan, which this year also coincides with Passover. During these sensitive days, the commander-in-chief is required to behave moderately, and of course legally. He is expected to operate a fire extinguisher in the area , and not to burn.
