The Federation of Charitable Associations in Damascus and its countryside, which includes 550 associations, launched a humanitarian appeal to lift the Western blockade on Syria, calling on the international community to end the unilateral coercive sanctions imposed on it in order to deliver aid to those affected by the earthquake.

The head of the Federation of Charitable Associations in Damascus and its countryside, Saria Al-Sirwan, said during a press conference today: that since the first moments of the earthquake, an operations room was established and the required relief needs were recorded in the various affected governorates, indicating that the volume of aid that has been sent so far has reached more than 200 tons. Various food and medical aids.

Al-Sirwan pointed out that the sanctions imposed on the Syrian people have a significant impact on the humanitarian response to the earthquake disaster, especially in logistical matters, explaining that the Syrian expatriates abroad suffer greatly from sending cash transfers and donations as a result of the imposed sanctions.

Al-Sirwan indicated that an integrated plan was developed in the event that the sanctions were lifted, including health, housing, and psychological and social support, indicating that the partial lifting of the sanctions was not greatly benefited from, especially in the field of securing medical equipment.

Al-Sirwan pointed out that the union's next plan is to secure housing by renting homes initially for those affected until permanent housing is secured for them.

In his turn, the advisor in the federation, Louay Al-Munajjid, explained that the sanctions have led to an increase in the cost of living and humanitarian operations, indicating that it is necessary to secure heavy and light evacuation mechanisms, different types of bulldozers, cranes, and drilling vehicles, in addition to canned food, mattresses, blankets, winter clothes, medical support, baby milk, and personal hygiene products. for those affected by the earthquake.
