The oldest and most complete Bible in the world will be displayed next week in London before it goes to auction in May - Sotheby's auction house announced, according to which it may sell for up to 50 million dollars. If the thousand-year-old book is sold for that amount or close to it, It will be the most valuable printed or historical document in history.
The book, known as the "Sassoon Codex" after its previous owner David Solomon Sassoon, was bought by him in 1929. It was part of his collection of Jewish and Hebrew writings, one of the most significant private collections of the 20th century. 20.
The document points to the connection between the oral Jewish tradition and the modern Bible.
Only recently the current owner of "Codex Sassoon", the collector Jacqui Safra, was able to date it to the end of the 9th century or the beginning of the 10th century and prove that it is older than the Aleppo Codex and the Leningrad Codex.
The oldest copies of the Bible ever found are the Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in caves in 1947.
The book will be presented for the first time in 40 years at Sotheby's auction house in London and then it will be presented in Tel Aviv, Dallas, Los Angeles until it is sold publicly in New York in May.
The most expensive document in the world to date is a copy of the first edition of the American Constitution, purchased in 2012 for $43.2 million.
