Donald Trump, former US President
»Nikki Haley, Ambassador to the United Nations, is very special to me.
She did an incredible job.
She's a fantastic person, but she's also someone who understands things.«
As ambassador, Haley represented Trump's foreign policy, which many diplomats saw at least critically.
In addition, the arch-conservative politician has spoken out against abortions and same-sex marriages in the past.
In her first campaign video, the daughter of Indian immigrants emphasizes her ties to her native South Carolina, where she was the first woman governor from 2011 to 2017.
Clip from campaign video Nikki Haley:
"My parents reminded me and my siblings daily how blessed we are to live in America."
And she is combative.
Nikki Haley, Republican
“Some people look to America and see the vulnerability.
The socialist left sees an opportunity to rewrite history.
China and Russia are on the rise.
They all think we allow ourselves to be bullied and pushed around.
Here's what you should know about me: I don't put up with bullies.
And when you hit back, wearing heels hurts them even more.
I'm Nikki Haley and I'm running to be president.”
Haley now has to assert himself in the internal party primaries against Trump, who has so far been the only one to announce his candidacy.
More prominent Republicans are expected to join the US presidential race soon.
Nikki Haley, Republican
"God bless America!"
In polls, however, Nikki Haley has not fared well in comparison to possible Republican competitors - her approval ratings at the party base are currently in the low single digits.
