According to the State Department, the decision that would require Israel to immediately cease all settlement activity in the West Bank is "not helpful" for promoting a political process. Ahead of the possible vote on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed the ambassadors in the member states of the Security Council to demand that they oppose any vote, announcement or product on the subject

The Deputy Spokesman of the State Department in the United States, Vedant Patel, said today (Thursday) that the presentation of the UN draft resolution, according to which Israel must immediately cease all activities in the territories, is "not useful" for the advancement of negotiations on a two-state solution. Earlier today it was

reported In the Reuters news agency that the UN Security Council will vote on Monday on a document that will require Israel to "immediately stop activity in the settlements."

This, following the training of the nine illegal outposts and the promotion of construction in the West Bank by the political-security cabinet.

The document, drawn up by the United Arab Emirates and the Palestinians, states that "the establishment of settlements by Israel in the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and is a flagrant violation of the laws of international law."

As revealed in Walla!, Israel is trying to stop the Palestinian movement at the UN against the settlements, and has begun to contact the members of the Security Council with the demand that they oppose any vote on a resolution or even the publication of a joint statement in the media on the subject - according to a telegram sent to about 15 Israeli missions around the world

. This was done in response to the decision of the political-security cabinet, which decided on Sunday on the "training" of nine illegal outposts in the West Bank and turning them into new settlements. Israel hopes that the US will veto any proposed resolution that the Palestinians bring to the Security Council for a vote. However, in Jerusalem they want to try and prevent the US from facing the dilemma of whether to veto a resolution that reflects the Biden administration's position against the settlements.

The Israeli diplomatic effort has low chances of success.

In Jerusalem, they are aware that the majority of members of the Security Council will not oppose a Palestinian demand to hold a vote on a resolution on the issue of settlements, if the latter insist.
