A soldier on regular duty and another 20-year-old youth were killed last Friday night in a car accident near Ama Adumim.
Already on Saturday night, the relatives of the deceased went to the military cemetery on Mount Herzl for his funeral, but then it became clear - the body lying in front of the family members is not their son's.
The investigation of the accident revealed that Idan Mizrahi and Sergeant Ariel Harali, a pair of friends from Ma'ale Adumim, were traveling late at night on Route 1 in the section between Mishor Adumim and Kfar Adumim.
Then, Mizrahi who was driving a car at excessive speed apparently noticed the lights of the police car from a distance, and for an unknown reason lost control of the car, slid off the lane and collided with the car.
Six people were injured in the incident, and the two were pronounced dead at the scene.
As is customary in such cases, two relatives were invited to the scene of the incident to identify the victims - a relative of Idan and Ariel's commander, who confirmed that it was indeed two.
According to a police source, the soldier was identified before he was brought into the IDF ambulance by a police officer, the mistake apparently happened after.
Their bodies were loaded into one ambulance that transported them to the nearest police station - in total violation of the law that prohibits this, due to the assumption that there may be confusion between victims, and therefore they must be transported in two different vehicles.
Two ambulances arrived at the police station, a military and a civilian one, which split the bodies to two different points.
Apparently, that's where the mistake was made - when Ariel was marked as Idan, and Idan was marked as Ariel.

When the spaceman arrived at Camp Shura, as is customary in IDF law, another test was conducted to identify him - this time two commanders from his unit were invited. To his surprise - they confirmed that these were their friends, and the military rabbinate confirmed the progress of the procedure for burial. At the end of Shabbat, Mizrahi's body was moved, which was
identified Inadvertently as the body of the rally, to the military cemetery. There, in a limited farewell that was supposed to be held before the funeral - the first warning light came on, after the face of the body was exposed, and his relative strongly claimed that it was a different person. For the avoidance of doubt, the body was returned in the dead of night for a fingerprint test in front of the repository The IDF, and the doubt turned out to be real.
Raleigh's body was moved to the cemetery, and he was buried later that night.
Mizrahi's parents received the news while they were on vacation abroad, so the funeral was postponed to Sunday. In retrospect, the story could have gotten much more complicated if one of the two had been buried - and his identity was wrong.

The IDF spokesperson stated: The bodies of the dead were evacuated to the Institute of Forensic Medicine. After an identification procedure, the identified body was taken to the IDF Space Center.
After another identification of one of the family members, it was realized that there was a mistake in the identification.
From a preliminary investigation of the incident, it emerged that the source of the error began with an incorrect registration before the bodies arrived at the legal institute or at their reception.
