"The Palmade affair says things about our society...": Jean-Baptiste Boursier talks about the treatment of this extraordinary news item on BFMTV

FIGARO LIVE - Guest of "Buzz TV", the weekend journalist from BFMTV will be in kyiv next week for a special edition. Before his departure, he debriefs his news and comes back to the business of the moment.

Present almost continuously for twelve years on BFMTV, Jean-Baptiste Boursier has become the man of the weekends of the info channel.

With no less than three different programs from Friday to Sunday, the journalist navigates between deciphering the news (“BFMTVSD” from Friday to Sunday, 6 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.) and political interview (“BFM Politique” on Sunday, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.).

A rhythm that seems to totally suit him: “

For a long time, I was the man of the evening.

But I like the weekend because the pace is different.

It's calmer... And in my personal life, everything is going well, thank you

(smile)”.

His Sunday political interview also allowed Jean-Baptiste Boursier to create his own style, far from the flashy standards that flourish everywhere.

I am happy that

Marc-Olivier Fogiel

entrusted me with this meeting which is brilliant!

My style is to ask the questions people are asking.

I don't run after the little phrase, even if it contributes to our time.

I'm more of the type to ask the question twelve times if I still don't have the answer...

Invited to react to the “Pierre Palmade affair” which has been agitating the media since the beginning of the week and which monopolizes considerable airtime on BFMTV, Jean-Baptiste Boursier wanted to explain why this news item appealed to the public: “

If we talk about it so much, it's because the Palmade affair says things about our society: a behavioral drift, an addiction, drugs, selfishness, a bereaved family... In there, there is has one or more topics that speak to everyone, to every family.

It resonates with people

 ,” he says.

The journalist will be less talkative about the Rachid M'Barki affair and his suspicions of interference which is currently shaking the editorial staff of BFMTV.

I think the channel was tricked but I will not comment on the ongoing investigation.

At a time when people are asking questions about the independence of journalists, this type of affair hurts us

...”, confesses Jean-Baptiste Boursier.

“I still get shivers when I think of our journalist who died in Ukraine”

Finally, the journalist mentions the forthcoming relocation of BFMTV to Ukraine, on February 24, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion.

As he flies to Kiev on Monday, Jean-Baptiste Boursier admits a certain apprehension: “

Yes, there is apprehension and fear.

It's normal and it's healthy.

Being afraid is also what protects against danger.

We are waiting for what Vladimir Putin will say on Tuesday, but we will be very careful and very vigilant.

We have undergone training to learn how to react in the event of danger, to treat wounds... We prepare for the worst by hoping that it does not happen

 ”.

Still touched by the disappearance of his colleague from BFMTV, the image reporter Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff, in May 2022 in Ukraine, Jean-Baptiste Boursier confides: “I still have a shiver when talking about him … It

's is abominable.

We think of him all the time.

The security conditions were good and he was a safe and careful journalist.

But when Russia decides to bomb a humanitarian convoy, there is nothing to do

...”
