For the second and final season of fantasy fiction worn by Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, Prime Video has called on a new showrunner. A short-lived dream for this producer and screenwriter previously on Daredevil.

A short but intense adventure.

After four years of absence, the second season of

Carnival Row

is released this Friday, February 17 on Prime Video.

A little catch-up session: In this fantasy series from the Victorian era, tensions reign between humans and magical creatures, nicknamed Critchs.

After a release hailed by critics and the public in 2019, the fiction carried by Orlando Bloom alongside Cara Delevingne changes showrunner.

Erik Oleson, formerly in the same position for the Marvel

Daredevil

series , replaces Marc Guggenheim.

A dream in ten episodes since Amazon has decided to stop its fantastic fiction after this season.

- Why did you agree to take over the reins of

Carnival Row

?

Erik OLESON.

-

Amazon made my dream come true, I was a fan of the series.

After working on the third season of

Daredevil

, the production offered me this job and it's as if I had heard:

"Hey, would you like to come and work in this huge fantastic production, with actors, sets and incredible costumes?”

.

Inevitably, I jumped at the chance.

What are the strong points of this fiction?

I am fascinated to discover an incredibly inventive world with such a wide range of possibilities.

For any screenwriter, there's no better fantasy than delivering contemporary messages in a world of creatures and magic.

What is the message behind

Carnival Row

?

The idea is to explore what divides and opposes us.

With the scriptwriters, we wanted to question viewers on impactful questions: racism, social justice... Yes, it's fun to do action scenes, fantastic moments, great sequences dedicated to the romance of our characters, but... 'there's no real message behind it, wouldn't it be empty?

So we made sure to use Amazon's money, the talent of our actors, the sweat of our teams to broadcast fiction that makes sense and of which we are proud.

How did you approach this second and final season?

My goal is to provide a worthy ending to every story arc touched on in the first season.

Everything must form an unexpected and enriching whole.

I was just the captain of a boat of talented screenwriters and together we managed to weave the screenplay around the following common thread: are we defined by our DNA or by our actions and our choices?

How do you respond to comments from fans disappointed by this stoppage?

It was above all the Covid that decided for us.

This pandemic has changed everyone's plans and left its mark.

Carnival Row is a very expensive series, it requires a great and long post-production work, special effects.

The timing imposed by the health crisis was beginning to deprive the actors of accepting other roles.

I'm sorry for the fans but Amazon made the right choice.

To make up for it, we offer a finale that makes sense.

Tell us about the meeting with the cast.

Working with such actors is like being given the keys to a Ferrari (

).

This cast was up to the challenge.

Everyone was patient and very responsive as I presented the script.

We made it a point of honor to treat all players fairly and nothing was imposed on them.

Our exchanges made their performance fascinating and I sincerely hope that this atmosphere is transcribed on the screen.

Does the series format leave more freedom than that of a film?

A film has the constraint of tight timing.

In the cinema, action and spectacle are favored over moments of calm.

I like the idea of being able to work on more main and secondary stories, to dig deeper into the relationships and personalities of the characters.

Fortunately for me, our mode of consumption has changed, viewers are fond of series!
