Crime of Lucio Dupuy: how Magdalena Esposito and Abigail Páez, prisoners in San Luis, found out about the life sentence

2023-02-17T16:17:58.170Z

Another time, like when the verdict was read, they did not see the hearing and a prisoner passed the notice to them. They are detained 500 kilometers from Santa Rosa, La Pampa.

The hearing lasted just minutes.

Lucio Dupuy's family (5) entered first, almost all of them wearing a T-shirt asking for justice for the crime of the baby murdered in 2021 in Santa Rosa, La Pampa.

A few seconds later, the members of the court took their seats: Alejandra Ongaro, Andrés Olié and Daniel Sáez Zamora.

About 500 km from the Santa Rosa Judicial Center, Magdalena Espósito Valenti (26) and her girlfriend Abigail Páez (28), prisoners in Penitentiary Unit No. 1 of San Luis, did not want to see the hearing live where the amount of the sentence was known. .

The same thing had happened when the verdict was released a few days ago.

In the first instance, guilty.

Now sentenced to life imprisonment.

"The girls found out through a notification letter that arrives at the prison.

It is making it difficult for me to communicate with them, actually, with Páez, who is my client," lawyer Silvina Blanco, official defender of one of the women

, told Clarín

.

the damned

When on Thursday, February 2, the court made public its decision to find the women guilty (with a qualification that could not escape life) both decided not to witness the verdict, also broadcast live on the Youtube channel of Power pampean court.

In that case, a judicial employee informed them that the Court of Hearing of La Pampa had convicted them of aggravated homicide and also Páez for seriously outrageous sexual abuse.

The official defender María Silvina Blanco, who represents Páez, told

Clarín

that the convicts "were working this Thursday, like any other day", since they do cotillion workshops and in the bakery.

They also had access to a copy of the verdict.

In turn, he revealed that

the other prisoners who are housed in the Detention Center of the province of San Luis are very angry

about this privileged situation that the condemned women live.

Despite the fact that they were transferred to the San Luis prison - located on Route 146, at kilometer 8 - for more security than in La Pampa, the prisoners threatened to kill Páez and Esposito.

For this reason, the prison had to improve security measures in the women's pavilion, which is unit 4.

The discontent on the part of the other inmates is because they maintain that both have privileges, while their environment denies that situation.

And although they are in individual cells,

the Dupuy family wants them to serve their sentences in different prisons.

In San Luis, the convicted women usually receive visits from their mothers.

They also saw the rest of their families during the oral trial that took place in Santa Rosa.

"When she came to testify, we saw her for a while, but we couldn't talk about her because the police were glued to her," says the environment of one of her murderers.

Páez's mother visited her twice in the San Luis prison, with a difference of seven months between the two.

Abigail often calls her family through the public phones.

After the verdict was not communicated.

"I spoke with Páez the day of the verdict, when they were found guilty. She is quite verbose, she is afraid for her family, for false information that appears in the media...

She and Magdalena are very satisfied with their life in prison. They are in individual cells, but in a common space where there are other prisoners

," explained Blanco, who will defend Abigail until the sentence is final, unless the defendant hires a private lawyer.

Espósito also has an official defense attorney, Pablo Andrés De Biasi.
